Angiosarcomas are cancerous tumors that develop from blood or lymphatic vessels. Angiosarcoma is one of the most devastating and lethal types of cancer. Angiosarcoma grows inside blood vessels, and can rapidly become cancerous and spread to many other parts of the body through the circulatory system since it develops in the blood vessels When angiosarcoma spreads it can invade:

• Muscles,
• Other blood vessels
• Skin
• Brain
• Heart
• Liver
• Soft  body tissues
• Spleen
• Bone
• Lungs

The most common places to find an angiosarcoma is on the arms or legs and in and around the neck & head. In most cases, the cause of angiosarcomas is not determined.

Two General Types (Categories) of Angiosarcomas:

• Hemangiosarcomas: these types of tumors start in the blood vessels of any soft tissues such as the heart, liver, lungs, skin, anywhere. Unless obvious (such as skin tumors) this type of cancer usually goes undetected until it is too advanced for treatment.
• Lymphangiosarcomas: this type of angiosarcoma is devastating because not only is it virtually undetectable, it attacks the immune system at its core, which not only reduces the ability of the body to fight off the cancer but also spreads (mestatizes) rapidly to other internal systems. Lymphangiosarcoma may occur in people with chronic lymphedema in a leg or arm. Doctors refer to this condition as Stewart-Treves syndrome

When the angiosarcoma invades the linings of the lymph nodes and lympatic system, then it becomes extremely deadly and is often lethal.
